Tinker @ TechCrunch’s Real-Time CrunchUp

Real-time search—it’s all the rage and it’s what’s happening NOW! And this Friday’s TechCrunch Real-Time Stream CrunchUp is the epicenter of what’s happening in this dynamic space.
What exactly is real-time search, you ask? It’s the ability to see what’s happening across every channel of the world-wide web now. Be it tweets, Facebook status updates, blog posts, articles, comments and more, real-time search captures the most up-to-the-minute content—and it’s transforming the traditional Web.
Search for Kobe Bryant in a real-time search engine like Twitter and you’ll see what people are tweeting about the NBA star at that very moment, instead of seeing results from archived Wikipedia pages and LA Times articles from years past.
But the buck doesn’t stop with Twitter when it comes to real-time search. There are countless platforms popping up in the valley and beyond and TechCrunch is bringing them all together in one place at their first-ever Real-Time Stream CrunchUp. And Tinker will be there!
We’re pumped to be a sponsor at this event and can’t wait to demo Tinker to the best of the best in the Valley. In addition to showing off Tinker’s real-time capabilities, we’ll also be providing TechCrunch with a live feed that will showcase all CrunchUp-related tweets. But as any diehard conference attendee knows, conference tweets can be overwhelming, repetitive and confusing—but with Tinker’s live conversation moderation tool Tech Crunch will have the ability to curate and select only the best tweets to appear on the feed.
Our Tinker widget, fresh off another round of added features, will also be embedded on the TechCrunch-dedicated CrunchUp page. The new-and-improved widget will include three tabs—All, Highlights, Speakers—where people will be able to see either all tweets, those highlighted by TechCrunch or just those tweeted by conference speakers. A Ustream-powered live video of the event will be streaming alongside the Tinker widget, allowing both remote participation and a more customized conference experience.
Needless to say, we’re super excited about being a part of this event and can’t wait to both share and learn from the best and the brightest in the state of “now.” For more on the event, check out the official TechCrunch agenda or follow the event on Tinker.
MSNBC Uses Tinker for Obama Town Hall!

Today Tinker partnered with MSNBC for their live broadcast of President Obama’s Virtual Town Hall on Health Care. We must say, it was a pretty spectacular event!
Our Tinker widget went live on MSNBC yesterday so they could start taking questions and comments in response to the President’s call for policy questions on health care reform. During the hour-and-a-half live town hall, tweets appeared from people all over the world on our Tinker widget next to the live video in real-time.
MSNBC visitors were able to tweet their questions and comments directly on the site via the widget. In addition to taking questions from the audience, the President chose questions containing the hashtag #WHHCQ and from YouTube videos. It was amazing to be part of creating this shared viewing experience on one of the most important challenges our country is facing. Integrating social media into the live stream really does make it feel like we are part of a shared conversation–and the President is listening.
Some choice tweets:
kenypowa: #WHHCQ Live Tinker Twitter feed is amazing. Direct communication between President and the people. Technology rocks.
whoryder: Wow this is awesome that i Tweet/Tinker on the MSN network.
nibbl35: #WHHCQ doctors shouldn’t be owned by giant drug companies, this is part of a major problem in healthcare today.
MrsRS: I’m type 2 diabetic. Under Obama healthcare, will I get the same treatment I’m getting w/my doc. & current healthcare insurance
AndrewPWilson: #WHHCQ Trying out Tinker for the First time – seeing lots of post via Tinker on the Town Hall today
The live video of the event is over, but the debate lives on. Twitter doesn’t store all tweets from the event, but you can find the entire transcript of the discussion here on Tinker. Looking for more responses? The Tinker event page also features live YouTube video responses (with Facebook integration coming soon) for complete 360º coverage of the groundbreaking event.

#140Conf: It’s “Now Media” Now

@adventuregirl (a travel writer with over 600,000 Twitter followers) and friend hanging out with the Tinker team at #140conf
News flash: It’s no longer “new media,” it’s “now media.” That was lesson number one at Jeff Pulver’s recent 140 Characters Conference in New York City. Twitter and others forms of real-time media are changing the way we think about the web, and we at Tinker were super psyched to be part of the conversation about how real-time streams are changing the way we communicate.
We demoed the powers of Tinker to help you follow topics and events on Tinker and to distribute the conversation on your own site via our widgets. It was great seeing NBC News’ @AnnCurry and CNN’s Rick Sanchez spar over the mainstream media’s use and response to real-time streams and hearing from the founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey. It was great meeting and seeing you speak, @jeffpulver, @YuliZ, @adventuregirl, @shelly_palmer, @mickdarling, @zaneology, @niche, @juliaroy, @etanowitz, @garyvee and many more. Here are some photos.
We’ll be in touch with many of you and don’t hesitate to email us at support AT tinker.com with questions about how to create a conversation stream on your own site right now.
Widgets, Real-Time People Search + More!
Hello Tinkerers! Today, Tinker is introducing some exciting updates. TechCrunch posted about how our project is evolving, Tinker Is Becoming a More Powerful Twitter Trends Discovery Engine, and we want to tell you about our new features here too.
1. People Directory & Real-Time People Search
Ever wonder who’s writing all those tweets beyond the usual suspects of Ashton and Demi and twelebrities like iJustine? Tinker’s new, comprehensive People Directory helps you discover the wide world of who’s microblogging and where. Our People Directory makes it easy for users to find, follow and filter relevant and influential microbloggers. You can search for people across multiple categories: by name, location, profession (e.g., search for everyone who works in social media or conservative politics or even geeks), popularity in verticals such as music and movies, conference organizers, and trendspotters on Tinker.
2. Semantic Types of Streams: Events, News, Celebrities, Topics
Tinker now allows a large range of topics to be tracked semantically–creating one of the largest collections of what people are currently talking about on Twitter. We’ll be adding more social media sources soon, such as Friendfeed, Facebook, and others.
3. Featured and Top Trends
We now feature a full list of top Twitter trends in movies, music, TV, people, concerts, news, and more, so you can follow the latest-real-time trends–all from one page.

4. Distributed Network: New Widgets and Apps
Tinker is now running more than 50 Million widgets and applications a month across a distributed network. New features include adding widgets in different sizes and colors, as well as live streaming video.
Our widgets let you distribute the conversation about you or your project, brand, or blog on your own site, and add an interactive dimension to your site by letting people log in directly to add a tweet on your site. If you have a movie, a book, a party, an event, a blog, or anything you want to promote, after you create a stream, take a look our widgets! It’s a great way to add a real-time dimension to your site and surface buzz.

We’re continually working on making Tinker the best place to view real-time conversations on any topic, brand, or news event. If you have ideas for us on how to make Tinker work even better, please let us know.
We live for feedback from our users. Email us at support AT tinker.com.
See you at the 140 Characters Conference!
Hello Twittering fiends, and all those who are interested in the “state of now”: we’ll see you next week at the 140 Character Conference, an event organized by Jeff Pulver, dedicated to investigating the effects of Twitter on media, book publishing, celebrity, advertising and more. We’re excited to be part of the conversation and will be exhibiting Tinker at the event. It’s the ultimate Twitter conference with thought leaders from the micro-blogging space and 15-minute panels. Time to get concise!
Come find us and chat with us at the conference to talk about using Tinker for your events and brands. You’ll spot us. We’ll be in the exhibit area playing with Tinker and Tinker Toys.
The twitosphere is buzzing with people aiming for spots to be one of the “characters” at the event–read the latest appeals to Jeff on our event stream for the Twitter event of the summer.
Bernard Desarnaut, our SVP International & GM Europe, Glam Media, will be talking on the Apps panel Wednesday, June 17 at 12:20pm: A look at twitter apps and their road ahead.
Here’s our nifty Tinker widget, which can be distributed on any site or blog. It features the latest 140 Character Conference tweets.
Now we’re live streaming video on Tinker too

We’re now achieving perfect harmonic convergence of live streaming video and real-time curated tweeting! Check out our Tinker Event Stream for Digital Content New Front, where we’re live streaming video from the conference with a real-time feed of event attendees’ tweets below. Lots of streams!
Comedian Tom Green, actor Faith Ford, Food Network host Paula Deen, Heroes actor Milo Ventimiglia, Jake and Amir, stars and creators of College Humor’s Jake & Amir, and other personalities are discussing how to make online content pay. Al Gore took the floor earlier today. Fascinating conversation and we’re proud to have been part of it. . . Yay!
Tinker for Conferences! Live @ Digitas

Tinker is a simple way for people to follow live conversations on Twitter and other micro-blogging platforms about events, so, naturally, we’ve been thinking Tinker is the perfect fit for all kinds of conferences to help people get more out of their conference experience and find the most relevant tweets.
We’re excited that today Tinker will live-stream a curated Tinker Event Stream from Digitas, at their invitation-only conference Digital Content New Front, where Al Gore, co-founder of Current, as well as, ahem, former VP of the United States, will be speaking on the future of digital content distribution.
The organizers will project a Tinker Event Stream behind the speakers so that everyone can submit questions and participate in the conversation in one place.
The organizers can curate the stream so it only pulls in tweets related to the conference.
Digitas is using one of our Tinker widgets on their live-stream page so that people who are watching live video of the conference can ask questions too. They’ll appear in the stream at the event, bridging the online and live audiences. Let’s say you’re watching Al Gore speak in New York on a live stream, but you’re in Israel. Using a Tinker widget, your question has the same opportunity to appear in the stream projected behind the speaker.
Check out the live stream page with Tinker in action here and on Tinker. Apparently all the tweeting is working. #NF09 is now a trending topic on Twitter!
If you’re interested in making it easier for people at a conference you’re organizing or attending to participate in a more meaningful real-time conversation, check out Tinker.com or email us at tinker AT glam.com and let’s chat!
