140 Characters Conference NOW Awards: Rules and Regulations

picture-112

“The NOW Award arose as an experiment in tracking Twittersphere merit and to supplement follower count as the measure of merit status quo. The relatively mild endorsement reflected in following someone leads to the quality versus quantity dispute. The NOW Award nomination process offers a mechanism for strong endorsement, because the nomination happens after the fact of following and requires the proactive nomination step (#140Conf vote @ <nominee>)” – Jeff Pulver

Rules and Regulations:

-To be valid, a vote must include in its entirety the following: #140Conf vote @ <nominee>

-@ <nominee> replies are NOT counted as votes

-Re-tweets for the same nominee are NOT counted as votes

-Only the first valid vote per Twitter account per nominee will be counted

-Users may vote for an unlimited number of nominees

-Votes will not be withdrawn, so please vote with care

-Votes that do not comply with the Tinker Terms of Use or that utilize spamming or other auto-generated methods will be removed

-Voting begins at 10:00 am (EST) on September 29, 2009 and ends at 11:59 pm (EST) on October 24, 2009

-Winners will be announced October 27th @ the #140Conf Networking Reception

As promised, a DEMOfall ’09 recap!

Today we announced the launch of Tinker.com 1.0 Beta. This next phase of Tinker includes significant new features for media companies, advertisers and consumers, including improved search, showcasing trending topics within single event streams, and the ability to view links/photos/videos. Other key features announced today include:

picture-1_revised1

*Tinker News: A news portal similar to Google News, but powered by social media. Tinker News aggregates social media streams for breaking news items based on how the news is trending on Twitter and other social media platforms. For instance, a top-trending news story could be pulled from Reuters and appear on Tinker News; if a reader wants to see the related tweets they can click to a Tinker event page that lets the reader join that conversation.

*Tinker Conversation Streams: Content publishers can now divide real-time streams by author, photo, video, articles and/or their stated location.

*Tinker Media Apps: Live moderation and filtration tools built into Tinker enable media companies to surface and manage conversation streams that are focused and relevant to their online audience. For example, msnbc.com uses Tinker to show relevant real-time conversations for a number of news events and also as part of its ongoing healthcare coverage at http://www.doseofreality.msnbc.com.

*Tinker Stream Ads: Tinker creates unique opportunities for advertisers and brands through Tinker Stream Ads, available in standard IAB units which are composed of aggregated and filtered real-time social media conversations. Tinker Stream Ads can carry campaign messages anywhere across the Glam.com and Brash.com Publisher Networks, as well as the Tinker Apps Network, with a combined reach of more than 52 million US visitors a month and 111 million uniques worldwide.

Needless to say, we had a number of compelling features to debut at DEMO, all of which combined to make for a very successful showing! Check out some choice tweets from members of the audience and press:

@lizasperling Tinker is best mainsteam consumer translation of Twitter I have seen yet. #DEMO09 tinker.com

siberianfruit: Tinker is doing what Twitter should be to monetize its platform? (GRT PT) #demo09

missdeb: just discovered tinker – WOW- this is cool – http://www.tinker.com/

lizasperling: Tinker .com will streamline Twitter for those who aren’t power users, but who want to follow events, interests, etc… #DEMO09

stilettojungle: Ok, I have to comment… @samirarora matched his pocket square to his @Tinker polo shirt for the #demo09 presentation. Fabulous. So Glam.

And a special thanks to the @Tinker and Glam Media team for all their hard work prepping for today!

Tinker @ DEMOfall 09

picture-111

September is a BIG month for Tinker. Not only did we just conclude our first-ever LIVE Fashion Week initiative, but we’re also gearing up for the high-tech conference of the year, DEMOfall 09, happening September 21-23rd. Tinker will be making “real-time” news when we present on Wednesday, September 23rd.

We’re so excited to participate and can’t wait to be part of the conference where so many promising technologies are unveiled. Though we’d love to give more detail about what we’re unveiling—as any DEMO conference veteran knows—we’ve been sworn to secrecy until we present!

We’ll be making our public demonstration on Wednesday at 12:30 PM and will be able to share more once our demo is complete. If you won’t be at DEMO, watch it live and tweet using the official hashtag #DEMO09.

If you’re attending DEMO, we invite you to come by the Tinker booth at station #1 to join us in person!

Stay tuned for pictures, product details and more….

That’s a Wrap!

Fashionistas around the world are breathing a collective sigh of relief as the pre-eminent fashion event of the year, New York Fashion Week, has come to an end. And Tinker is joining in! After a week and a half and nearly 30 trend reports, we can safely say Tinker’s first Fashion Week was a resounding success!

As a brief recap, Tinker was integrated into Glam.com’s overall fashion week coverage, providing comprehensive, real-time coverage on the emerging trends from each show. Via an all-things-Fashion Week widget (see below), Tinker was able to isolate fashion, gossip, and beauty and hair trends as they were happening. Within minutes after the show’s end, Tinker blasted out trend reports for users and media to see, containing all the must-know information and gossip from each show.

What’s more, Tinker’s customized widget enabled filtered views of the event, allowing users to view the shows from three different perspectives:

-ALL tab: users could see all tweets about the show

-FEATURED tab: users could see only tweets from fashion industry insiders, including editors, executives, celebrities, stylists and models

-GLAM NETWORK tab: users could see only tweets coming from Glam Network publishers in the tents

picture-44

For a look at the trend reports Tinker was able to compose via the widget’s capabilities, check out the Marc Jacobs event page here, complete with the ongoing conversation stream and the option to view the trend report.

picture-110

We’re still sifting through the mounds of tweets we aggregated during the week and will have more data to come! Stay tuned.

A special thanks to all the Glam Network publishers who participated in Tinker’s Fashion Week program and to the Glam Media editors for their editorial support!

Until next year…
